Le Cerceau Magique (The Magic Hoop) is a silent short film released in 1908. The film is directed by French caricaturist Émile Cohl and stop motion animation has been used in the film.
The story in brief:
A little girl comes to a man in a park with a broken hoop and asks him to repair it. The man creates a new hoop with his walking stick. The hoop possesses some magical quality which is revealed time to time. The little girl is very happy with her new hoop and starts playing with it but she can't keep up with it's pace and once she is able to catch up with it she mounts it on a hookin the wall. After she leaves the place the hoop starts showing various animations inside it. Watch the film to see Émile Cohl's animation magic.
