Urban Science: To Demonstrate How Spiders Fly is a scientific documentary film directed by F. Percy Smith and released in 1909. The film demonstrates the mechanism of a spider shooting silk thread in the air, creating a web and descending with the help of that thread. The use of stop motion animation to show this biological phenomenon using a dummy spider is simply ahead of it’s time. The movements of the spider are flawless and leaves us awestruck. The film ends with a footage of a real spider spinning a web.
