One of the oldest surviving animation film

The Haunted Hotel is a silent short film released in 1907. This American comedy film was directed by J. Stuart Blackton. It contains some stop motion animation and is one of the oldest surviving animation film.


The story in brief:

The film starts showing a spooky inn in a deserted location. A traveller enters the inn and once he is alone in the room strange things start to happen. Things start to move by themselves, the foods prepare on their own, a figure comes out of the tea pot and pours tea in his cup but when he tries to pull that figure out of the pot he only gets to pull out a white napkin instead. The napkin keeps moving on its on making it hard for the man to get hold of it. Finally he manages to grab it but then realises it has magnified to the size of a bedsheet. He changes to his night dress and tries to get some sleep but finds ghostly figures dancing round his bed. Then the whole room starts to sway and whirl.
