Les Ombres chinoises (The Chinese Shadows) is a short animation movie released in 1908. It is directed by Spanish film maker Segundo de Chomón. It is a mix of live action and silhoutte animation.
The story in brief:
Two ladies dressed in Chinese costumes come onstage and perform a shadow theatre. It’s this shadow theatre created using black cutouts that the director animated to various shapes and figures.
