Early stop motion animation

Dreams of Toyland is a short silent film released in 1908 and directed by Arthur Melbourne-Cooper. A major part of the film is made using stop motion animation. 


The story in brief:

The film starts with a mother taking her son to a toy store. They purchase a whole lot of toys. Then the mother makes her son sleep. The young boy dreams of his new toys coming to life. Watch the film to see what the toys did in the boy’s dream.
